Counselling For Children & Teens
Why Counselling?
Individual counselling at Creative Minds is an opportunity to build resilience, positive coping skills and learn new ways to solve problems. Some concerns may be related to behaviours, current life stressors and/or a possible diagnosis. A counsellor can help you and your child/teen learn new ways of understanding thoughts and feelings and ways to work through these difficult times. Play therapy is the foundation of our work with children. However, we incorporate Cognitive Behavioural Therapy, Dialectical Behavioural Therapy, Client Emotion Focused Therapy and Eye-Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing Therapy as needed.
Our Approach
Primarily using a play based, emotion and client focused approach, we use very safe and supportive techniques to better understand your child/teens world and how they experience it. Although we work with your child, we also work with you as a family. We know that working with parents to help them better understand their child’s behaviours and finding new ways to connect gets the best results. We collaborate together to work on goals that are most important to you and your family and walk beside you on your journey to a healthier and happier home.

Counselling for Children
The aim of play therapy is to decrease behavioural and emotional difficulties that interfere significantly with a child's normal functioning. Inherent in this aim, we use specialized techniques to improve communication and understanding between you and your child. In this type of treatment, we use an understanding of cognitive and emotional development, as well as the conflicts common to these stages when treating your child. Different types of play activities help engage your child and provide support during treatment. Modalities include: puppet play, art, drawings, sand tray, music, clay, storytelling and creative play. This approach allows children to express what they cannot say verbally through a medium that is natural and safe.
Counselling for Teens
Adolescence is a time of rapid physical development, social and emotional change. Some teens sail effortlessly through these years without encountering any major issues, for others however, adolescence can be a much tougher time. At Creative Minds Consulting, we use an approach that is safe and supportive when working with teenagers. Whatever the situation, we can help both parents and teens understand their needs, feelings, and behaviours.
